When you see yourself in a crowded room, do your fingers itch, are you pistol-whipped? Will you step in line or release the glitch? Can you fall asleep with a panic switch?

Well, I’m a Copy Mom.

I went to the meeting for volunteers at Em’s school yesterday.  Some of those women are so freakin’ obnoxious!  Okay, maybe just one of them.  There’s this one REALLY loud mom who kept talking SO loudly, acting like she was the room mom, telling us every 5 minutes how busy she was, how her son plays football and she’s a football mom, and how her daughter has girl scouts, etc, etc, etc.  Who the frak cares?  Jeez lady.  This other lady (the mom of the one kid from Em’s kindergarten class) has this annoying baby voice (not in pitch, in tone) where we have to hear that she’s got twins and what does she do when one’s sick or both are sick or whatever and she can’t make her commitments.  Blah, blah, blah.  There are some tennis moms too, who’s the adult version of the high school cheerleader.  They’re better than you and will barely deign to talk to you .  /sigh  I don’t see any potential great friends here.  The room mom is English, I think.  She’s not outspoken at all, which seems like an odd choice for room mom.  Her son sits next to Em in class.  She seems okay, but she’s a tennis mom.  However, the English might cancel that out.  Not sure.  😛  One of Em’s friends’ mom is cute…seems nice enough, but she looks like the type that wouldn’t be.  /shrug  There was one dad there who seemed nice.

Anyway, so Em’s teacher needed helpers for things like Copy Mom, Centers Helper, Tutor, Computer, etc.  The Tutor comes in once a week and takes kids out in the hall for 5 minutes to help them with whatever problem they’re having.  The teacher makes a list of kids who are having problems and what they’re having problems with and those are the kids the tutor helps.  Seems like a good idea.  Centers mom comes in and wrangles kids while they’re doing Centers and the teacher’s working with reading groups.  Computer mom comes in and helps out when they do the computer stuff once a week.  Gets the computers started up and on the right program and helps with any questions.  Then, there’s copy mom.  I’m one of 4.  We each come one week out of four and take the teacher’s stuff and do all the copies for her.  She says it’s a 1-2 hour job each week.  So I’m going in today to learn about the copier and the die(dye?) cutter, whatever the hell that is.  Shouldn’t be hard.

So, I’m thinking that the co-Room Moms did all this stuff last year.  They never asked for any kind of help like this.  Sure, when there were parties and such, there were emails that went around asking for volunteers and for items.  But that was about it.
