Product Review: Fage Greek Nonfat Yogurt

This is the last in a series of 5 reviews of Greek Nonfat Yogurt.  Obviously, this is my personal opinion.  I’ve tried Greek yogurt before and not liked it.  I found it very bitter and I didn’t like it at all.  However, I’m trying to lay off the artificial sweeteners, and Greek yogurt has more filling protein in it, so here I am.  I got strawberry in all five flavors to better compare.  First, the facts:

  • Type:  Fage Greek Nonfat Strawberry Yogurt
  • Serving Size:  1 container, 150g, 5.3oz
  • Nutrition Facts:  Calories-120 (Calories from Fat-0), Total Fat-0g (Saturated Fat-0g, Trans Fat-0g), Cholesterol-0mg, Sodium-45mg, Total Carbohydrates 17g (Dietary Fiber 0g, Sugars 16g), Protein 13g
  • Ingredients: Strained Yogurt:  Grade A Pasteurized Skimmed Milk, Live Active Yogurt Cultures (L. Bulgaricus, S. Thermophilus, L. Acidophilus, Bifidus, L. Casei).  Strawberry Fruit Preparation (20%):  Strawberries, sugar, Water, Corn Starch.  Contains 2% or less of:  Strawberry Juice Concentrate, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Natural Flavors, Xanthan Gum
  • Weight Watchers Points+:  3
  • Price:  $1.50 – Publix, on sale 2/$3

My Opinion:  This was relatively tasty.  It was about the same in tastiness as Chobani, but this is the only one where the fruit part is totally separate from the yogurt part.  Let me tell you why it didn’t work so well for this.  the part with the yogurt in it was so full, that when you added the fruit, it was hard to stir it up.  So when I got to the end, there was some plain yogurt with no fruit and it was SO BITTER it made me gag a little.  Some of you will say, “Just mix it in a separate bowl.”  But you see, I’m all about convenience.  I don’t want to bother with that and dirty up another bowl because this one yogurt is annoying.

Objective Comparison of Facts:  Fage has only 10 more calories than the lowest option.  It also has the lowest amount of sodium at 45mg.  It’s total carbs is only 1g more than the lowest and it’s sugar content is the same.  It has one less gram of protein than the highest yogurt too.

Order of Yumminess, Best to Worst:  1-Liberté, 2-Chobani, 3-Fage, 4-Voskos, 5-Oikos Organic
