Monday – Magic Kingdom
Em’s Birthday – Monday we had breakfast at the hotel cafeteria area. It was Em’s choice since it was her birthday. I had a vegetable omelet and some roasted potatoes, along with the banana I ate before we left the room. We took the bus to the Magic Kingdom (MK) and got there about 30 minutes before it opened. We got a good seat for the opening stuff, which we always missed before. When the park opened we headed in and went right to the Town Square Theatre and were the third set of people in line to see Cinderella, Aurora, and, more importantly, Rapunzel. This was one of Em’s two favorite characters she saw all week. On the way out, we got to see Clarabelle Cow and Horace Horsecollar outside. It was Long-Lost Friends week at MK and there were a bunch of them all over the place, those these are the only two we got in line to see. We headed over the Fantasyland, but stumbled on Merida, so we got in line to see her. Here was Em’s second favorite character meeting. She was TOO cute (both Em and Merida)!
We then headed over get FPs for Space Mountain. After that, we went to new Fantasyland to do the new Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid. This had a long line most of the time, but early in the day it wasn’t too bad. It was a relatively boring little ride. It was fine, but nothing all that fantastic. We left there and went by Gaston’s Tavern for some LaFou’s Brew. It tasted like iced apple juice, but was tasty. Gaston was outside, but Em didn’t want to meet him. By then it was only 10:30am, but the line for counter service at Be Our Guest was already insane, so we decided that wouldn’t work for us later and gave up that idea. We then headed back over to use our FPs for Space Mountain. After that, we did Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and then the Astro Orbiter. I’d somehow never done the Astro Orbiter before. It made me dizzy and I didn’t care for it much. I felt like I was going to fall out of the car! We then had lunch at Cosmic Ray’s. We were going to do somewhere we hadn’t gone before, but this was too convenient. They all sang Happy Birthday to her! I had a veggie burger that was adequate, but not great. I had chocolate cake for dessert. It was yum. I had 2 bites and gave the rest to Em. That would continue to be the trend for lunch desserts all week. I had a bite or two of all of them and then gave them to Emily.
After lunch, we did Stitch’s Great Escape and then the Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor. We then went to pick up FPs for Big Thunder Mountain. I wasn’t feeling great by this time and had an upset stomach, so I sent Chris and Em to do the Enchanted Tiki Room. I eventually felt better and we walked through the Swiss Family Treehouse. After that, we got in line to see Tinker Bell and Periwinkle. The line was LONG and way longer than it promised. It took us over an hour. But Em had on her Tink Mickey Ears and her Tink tee, so she was ready. After that we went back to use our FPs for Big Thunder Mountain. I’m not sure what the deal was, but the FP line was out the front gate, backed up while the regular line was empty until almost the end. It took us at least 20 minutes to get through it and ride. After that, we were excited to see that Pirates of the Carribean was finally open. It had been closed all day. So we rode that one before heading over to the Monorail. We took that to the Polynesian for our ADR at Ohana.
Chris and I thought Ohana was really yum. Em, not so much. We had a salad with a light dressing to start (which I had 2 helpings of). Then we had chicken wings (had 2), pork potstickers (had 1), and some veg lo mein (had a very small portion of). All that was yum. Em didn’t like any of it. I’d never done Ohana for dinner and I thought it was described as a buffet, but it’s not. It’s more like those Brazilian steak places where they bring meat around to your table constantly. Here it was chicken (very good with the provided sauce), pork (eh), steak (omg yum), and shrimp (duh, didn’t have). I only had one portion of the three and didn’t finish the pork one. Dessert was bread pudding with a caramel/banana sauce with vanilla ice cream. It was SO GOOD. I probably had a half portion of that. Em got a giant bowl of ice cream and a cupcake. But she kept being interrupted by the kiddie games and then them singing Happy Birthday, so she had ice cream soup by the end! After that, we took the monorail back to MK and were just in time for Wishes. We watched and then headed back to the room for the evening.
